The Maine Warden Service is urging people not to venture out onto any ice that may be covering Maine’s waterways.

In some parts of the state, Maine’s lakes and ponds may appear to be frozen, but safe ice conditions cannot be assumed even though temperatures have been below freezing in recent days and at night. Also, any snow covering thin layers of ice acts as insulation and slows the freezing process.

“There are no safe ice conditions anywhere in the state right now. Period,” said Col. Joel Wilkinson, chief warden of the Maine Warden Service.

As the temperatures fall in the coming weeks, and the ice begins to thicken, the Maine Warden Service recommends people check the thickness of any ice before venturing out for any activity on frozen water.

Ice Saftey Tips:
• Do not guess the thickness of the ice. Check it in several different places using an auger or some other means to make a test hole and determine the thickness. Make several holes, beginning at the shore, and continuing to do so.
• Check the ice with a partner, so if something does happen, someone is there to help. If doing it alone, wear a lifejacket.
• If ice at the shoreline is cracked or squishy, stay off. Watch for thin, clear or honeycombed ice. Dark snow and dark ice are other signs of weak spots.
• Avoid areas with currents, around bridges and pressure ridges. Wind and currents can break ice.
• Parents should alert children of unsafe ice in their area, and make sure they stay off the ice. If children want to use new skates, suggest an indoor skating rink.

Anyone who breaks through the ice is encouraged to remember:
• Don’t panic.
• Don’t try to climb out immediately -- people will probably break the ice again. Reach for solid ice.
• Lay both arms on the unbroken ice and kick hard. This will help lift one's body onto the ice. Once on the ice, roll, do not walk, to safety.
• To help someone who has fallen through the ice, lie flat and reach with a branch, plank or rope or form a human chain. Don’t stand. After securing the victim, wiggle backwards to solid ice.

Maine State Police Trooper Shawn Porter said George Grotten, 73, of Montville, was behind the wheel of his 1990 GMC truck around 2:50 p.m. Saturday when he pulled onto Route 3.
Grotten was entering the highway near the 10-4 Diner. When Grotten pulled out, he reportedly drove into the path of an Irving oil tanker truck.
The Irving vehicle, a 2005 Freightliner, was driven by Francis Paradis, 65, of Northport. Paradis was traveling east, Porter said, while it appeared Grotten was going to be heading west.
Porter said emergency personnel believed Grotten sustained a broken arm and other injuries and Paradis had a broken hip. Porter said the LifeFlight helicopter was called, but could not respond because of weather conditions.

Same Sex Marriage: Adam & Eve? or Adam & Steve

1 and 2 think that there should be same sex marriage because it should be people that make there own choice who they marry or love. Its how they feel about someone because its there choice like guy & guy, girl & girl or guy & girl. Its the way they think about each other. Its there life, they can do what they want with it.

Death Penalty Keep It or Kill It

1 and 2 think we should kill it because I isn't right to kill a person just because they did something. But also would kind of right if the person was a cereal murder or Rapped and killed the person. But I think it would be better if they had to stay in jail to they die so they can think about what they did or some times they get killed by inmate.

Most tagging stations are reporting lower-than-average numbers of whitetails, but often the deer that are being taken are good-sized; including many trophy bucks.
Although it’s too early in the season to predict a final harvest count, most of the state’s deer biologists believe that last winter’s deep snows and cold temperatures will keep this year’s success rate down, especially in Northern and Eastern Maine, and in the western mountains. If weather conditions over the final weeks of the season remain favorable, Midcoast hunters should — according to the experts — have an average season.

An 8-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself in the head while firing an Uzi submachine gun under adult supervision at a gun fair.

The boy lost control of the weapon while firing it Sunday at the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo at the Westfield Sportsman's Club, police Lt. Lawrence Vallierpratte said.

Police said the boy, Christopher Bizilj (Bah-SEAL) of Ashford, Conn., was with a certified instructor and called the death a "self-inflicted accidental shooting."

As the boy fired the Uzi, "the front end of the weapon went up with the backfire and he ended up receiving a round in his head," police Lt. Hipolito Nunez said. The boy died at a hospital.

The boy's father and older brother were also there at the time, a gun club member and school official said. Francis Mitchell, a longtime member and trustee of the club, said he was told the boy's father was supporting his son from behind when the shooting happened.

John Bednarik and his wife, Leslie Woods, of Montville, have had their handmade plywood signs supporting the Obama-Biden ticket both destroyed and stolen. Bednarik said that several times during the last month, his signs have been torn down and pilfered. The first time, he said, a pro-Obama sign constructed of thick plastic was hanging in a tree at his lawn's edge. One morning, Bednarik found the sign "ripped right down the middle." He repaired it by using a spray-on adhesive to mount the pieces to a piece of plywood.

Wal-Mart Yeah or No Way

Wal-Mart Yeah or No Way

Wal-Mart yeah or No Way 1 and 2 think no way because it could really hurt Belfast in many ways and could have many good things happen to. The pros are a lot of people would be coming to Belfast. But the con to that is that there will be a lot more pollution with Wal-Mart and all the cars that will be coming from all over which will hurt Belfast environment like how it looks by the water and how it will effect the hunting in Maine. Another reason why is that all the down stores will lose some of there profits but it could be possible that there profit could increase because there will be a lot more of people to come to Belfast
